@JoeyDuece22 and @SoCalBallNerd 2023 MLB Collaboration (6-3)
The Texas Rangers look for a three game sweep on Wednesday in Kansas City against the 4-14 Royals. The Rangers come in at 11-6 and sitting in 1st place in the American League West.
The Royals call upon right-hander Brady Singer to stop the bleeding for a Royals team that is 1-11 at home to start the season. Pitching has not been great and Singer was not good his last time out. He gave up 10 hits and 8 runs in 5 innings pitched against the Atlanta Braves. Singer is coming off of a great 2022 season with a 3.23 earned run average in 153+ innings pitched. This Ranger team offense may not be the caliber of the Braves, but they have found a way to drive in runs as they have the 2nd most in all of MLB (100). The Rangers have had the majority of their success offensively this season against right handed pitching.
The story is on the other side of the mound. The Rangers throw left-handed Martin Perez who has pitched well since the beginning of 2022 where he hit 196+ innings with an ERA of 2.89. In his first three starts of 2023 Perez has 15+ innings pitched and a 2.87 ERA. To make matters worse, Kansas City is hitting under .200 as a team against lefties through the first 18 games. Three of Perez’s five earned runs have come via the long ball, but the Royals have only hit 13 home runs in the early goings (27th out of 30).
Singer may be able to hang in there and keep the Royals in the game, but he does not have much help behind him. KC has the 5th worst bullpen in the league, while the Rangers have the 5th best pen. Texas is finding a way to put runs on the board, and pitching is keeping opposing teams down. The Royals are a down offense and there is no reason to see that changing on Wednesday.
