This is part of a series highlighting Latin people in the Fantasy Football Industry. 2 of 30

Today is a special day for all of México and several people living in the United States as well. At midnight the ‘Grito de Dolores’ is remembered with a gathering at National Plaza. The same bell Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang in 1810 signaling México’s declaration of independence is struck again sending vibrations through the air. The Crowd responds with chants of ¡Viva México! and a celebration rooted in equality and liberty is celebrated by over 100,000 people. For a brief history of El Grito de Dolores and the history of the day/moment of September 16, 1810 watch this three minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKaMH3AB6Zk

In honor of México, we honor one of the fantasy football’s best who happens to be a Méxicana, Gemma Martinez. Gemma is in her ninth year of fantasy football, and is a lifelong football fan with memories of watching Joe Montana in the Superbowl. She also submitted this about her fantasy football experience.

I generate content in NFL Fantasy en Español @NFLFantasyEsp (preseason content & Hidden Gems “Sleepers of the week”) and @FootballGirlsMx (Waivers, Star’em and Sit’em), first Mexican woman to make rankings in Fantasy Pros, I write articles in Estadio Fantasy . Since 2020 I have participated in the SFB and this year I was in the organization of the live draft in Mexico City. Since 2021, I organized a tournament called #FGFantasyBowl in Football Girls MX in which Spanish-speaking women from different parts of the world such as Spain, Mexico, USA, Chile, Panama, Canada, among others, participate. I think it is important to include and invite more people to play fantasy (website emphasis). This year I was excitedly invited to play in the inaugural Queens Classic league at the HOF and participate in the WOFF panel at the Fantasy Expo in Canton, Ohio.

From covering the Super Bowl, finding hidden ‘gems’, and being an excellent singer and dancer (FF Expo moments), Gemma Martinez is one of the best people, and brightest minds in fantasy football and you should be following her @_GemmaMartinez.

So to mis primos, amigos, y gente a ambos lados de la frontera, felicidades! To all my friends and family who are not latins but are our neighbors come celebrate with us today, and try the chiles en nogada… you might enjoy it.

Thank you reading, please come back tomorrow as we highlight another Latin in the Fantasy Football Community.
