Undefeated or just unchallenged? – We are rolling into week 3 of the NFL, and from Eliminator challenges to Futures bets, football enthusiasts are looking to cash in on the success of 9 teams that have yet to take a loss. Before any of you go and start betting the house on anyone, take a quick read on each team and their success so far.

Dallas – Although the weight of losing CB Trevon Diggs is heavy, this team turned it around HUGE. This isn’t the same team (for the most part) from last season which had their season end on… that. No, this team has amassed the highest scoring margin so far, and has no signs of slowing down. Yes, we have been high (and let down) by the Cowboys before, but this team is for real (for now).

Miami – The best part about this team is the lack of surprise on the offensive production. The worst part is the number of points this team gives up. They’re one week or injury away from realizing they need to stop the ball as much as scoring it. You can win a game 2-0, Fins!. Call me slanted, but this team isn’t ready for the big stage yet.

Santa Clara – This is the ONLY team that has played UP to their potential (minus the not-so-perfect game from Purdy), with Super Bowl projections and aspirations abound. This team has only one downside – time. The more games their stars play in extended minutes, the higher the risk of being available for the rest of the season. I;m looking for this team to be at least in the NFC Championship game.

Baltimore – Either this team is deeper than we thought, extremely lucky or both. The fact remains that, although good, the offense isn’t consistent (lulls on drives vs Cincy) and the defense takes plays off. Plus, with the injury to JK Dobbins, you have to question if Harbaugh wants to continue to run with Lamar Jackson or depend on a full Odell Beckham Jr comeback. This team has yet to be tested. I would hold off on betting anything on them.

Atlanta – Ah, ok. So drafting talent works. The Falcons are playing in a manner that doesn’t scream dark horse, but it does show that there’s a solid foundation to build upon. The 1st game came against another rookie QB riddled with mistakes. The 2nd game came against a sophomore in his NFL debut as the team’s starter, and that game was won by a point. This team isn’t trending. It’s treading.
New Orleans – This team does just enough to win. It has just enough big plays, gets just enough points… and you get the gist. The fact of the matter is that if the Saints want to go anywhere in the playoffs, they’re going to need to win their division, and a 20 to 17 win over a rookie QB isn’t going to help.

Tampa Bay – Stop reading if you read this before: There are 3, 2-0 teams in the NFC South. Why? This team beat a Minnesota team with a missing identity (more on that later), and a Chicago team that never found one. There’s something to be said about being led by a bigger (better?) Baker Mayfield. He has led this team to both wins. This team could be a surprising dark horse out of the NFC South.

Philadelphia – This reminds me of a luxury car where one feature isn’t quite working. It doesn’t feel like a complete car. The Eagles don’t perform like a complete team, because they have a little bit of an issue at pass protection. This was blown into full view by the Vikings for a quarter and a half. While they did figure that game out by running the ball down the Vikings’ throat, the Eagles are going to need to figure out how to get the ball in the air if they’re going back to the Superbowl.

Washington – Although they are 1 of 3 undefeated NFC East teams, they are by far the weakest. Each game this team has won has been due to being heads up on defense and a little lucky on offense. They played Josh Dobbs and a Cardinals team that has got to be tanking, and a Denver team that just can’t seem to stop beating themselves. Until this team is tested, the Commanders are a pretender to me.
