This is part of a series highlighting Latin people in the Fantasy Football Industry. 14 of 30
Today is game day! We have an epic divisional rivalry game loaded with fantasy football players on both sides of the ball. However, Thursday can be a bit tricky, so it is best to get advice from someone that has been playing fantasy football longer than NFL Thursday Night Football has been around. Today’s Latin Heritage Month Highlight is on Ricardo Rodriguez.
Ricardo Rodriguez had this to say about his fantasy football experience, and his thoughts on fantasy football in the latin community:
I’ve been playing since 2002 when my brother introduced me to yahoo fantasy football, Watching football was never the same. After a few learning experiences and not taking it that serious in 2004 we formed a home league, still active to this day with some of my closest friends and two older brothers. This league is what sparkled my absolute love for fantasy. One of my fondest memories is winning the ship against my brother thanks to a late meaningless 4th quarter Sproles TD from my QB Drew Brees… They didn’t have to run the score but I guess the rivalry against the Falcons was enough for ( Sean) Payton to have called that play. We where watching the game together (he came to visit form the states, he lives in IA) No TD no Championship. Fantasy football is growing very rapidly in México and latin america, we have seen our league grow from 6 divisions in 2020 to 37 this year even more so, events like the SFB hosts live drafts in Mexico City (I got the chance to be there) Mauricio Gutierrez from Estadio Fantasy is to recognize as the pioneer in the latino industry, I fondly remember watching his periscopes live shows back en 2010 or so…

You can find our streams in our Youtube Channel https://youtube.com/@NacionFantasyMx Also in spotify and every mayor podcast site you may know just have to type NACION FANTASY and you’ll find us. I believe that Fantasy football is THE catalyst for NFL fandom. I don’t know anyone that has ever played a home fantasy league that doesn’t turn into a diehard NFL fan. It reaches EVERYONE, girls that are into football can find an inclusive community that treats them no different as the next dude that plays in your league, even smack talking… I’m very much in love with this community and try every day to serve just a little bit to make it a pleasant place to every person I meet.

2002, with a home league in its 20th year… that is special. Make sure to give Ricardo Rodriguez a follow on X @ricronalds and subscribe to his youtube mentioned above.
Thank you reading, please come back tomorrow as we highlight another Latin in the Fantasy Football Community
