Week four is in the books. At this point, we can see what teams and players are made of. We will continue to see changes throughout the remainder of the year, yet we now know the powerhouses and struggling teams. We had eight defensive touchdowns in week four which aided in a lot of fantasy scoring. The week was led by the Seattle Seahawks dominating performance over the New York Giants. The Dallas Cowboys were behind another top finish with two defensive touchdowns. We had performances over 15 points by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Chargers. Let’s get into our options for week five!
Washington Commanders (vs. Chicago Bears)
ESPN Rostered: 19% Sleeper Rostered: 14%
The Washington Commanders have only one interception and one fumble recovery on the season. They also have 13 sacks and face the Chicago Bears. Ideally, we would want to see more turnovers from a team we stream, but a low score with sacks should lead to a solid performance. We also will not rule out a turnover as Chicago has thrown five interceptions and they have a negative 6 turnover ratio. The Bears scored the most points all season last week against a terrible Denver Broncos defense. Prior to that, they had not surpassed 20 points in the year. The Commanders just came off tough back-to-back matchups with the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills, but I am anticipating a bounce-back week finishing in the top 10 for fantasy defenses.
New England Patriots (vs. New Orleans Saints)
ESPN Rostered: 57% Sleeper Rostered: 58%
The New England Patriots are playing my team, The New Orleans Saints. I will be blunt about this–the Saints are bad at offense. The Saints have yet to score over 20 points this season and have only two passing touchdowns. Derek Carr is nursing an injury and has a one-to-one touchdown to interception ratio. Even with the addition of Alvin Kamara, the Saints were only able to put up nine points against the Buccaneers last week. Quite frankly, in this matchup, you could start either team. I selected the Patriots due to the 90% ownership of the Saints at the time of writing. I anticipate the Patriots to hold the Saints under 20 points with the possibility of a turnover or two. Both teams should finish with the top 10 defenses for the week.
Denver Broncos (vs. New York Jets)
ESPN Rostered: 7% Sleeper Rostered: 13%
Broncos country, let’s ride! I firmly believe that quote was the demise of the Broncos. That said, we were able to ride them to a top-12 finish last week. Coming off their first win of the season, they get another favorable matchup with the New York Jets. The coaching staff has decided to go down with Wilson at the helm. Wilson is averaging one interception per game while being sacked 10 times on the year. Scoring no more than 23 points on the year, the Jets are another team that is unable to move the ball. This is another case where you could start either team. I went with the Broncos as their offense has a bit more firepower. If the Jets are available I would still not have a problem plugging them in.
