This is part of a series highlighting Latin people in the fantasy football industry. 22 of 30

Today is Friday, and it is about feeling good. For most their work week is coming to an end, there are excellent college football games and even better NFL games ahead. The best part about Fantasy Football, other than winning a championship, is hanging with league mates, and talking through out the season about bad moves, impressive games (Did you see DJ Moore last night?), and how bad you are going to beat your opponent/friend the week you play, etc.. Today’s focus is on a content creator who loves being active on the comment section and on the waivers, with a love of IDP as well. Gabriel Mafra is the Latin highlight of the day.

Gabriel had this to say about his love of fantasy and his mindset approaching a league; I usually play Fantasy for the enjoyment of it, even when I’m playing to win. I like to raise the bar of me and my leaguemates by creating discussions and generating engagement, making sure that we are on the same page in terms of knowledge (or I’m happy enough if I’m the one who knows less). Because of that, I’ve always been a big proponent of expanding the community and tried to break the barriers between die hard players and neophytes in the game.

The other thing is that I try my best and usually point that out to others that, on Fantasy, speaking in absolutes is bad business. We can’t know for sure that a player A will outscore player B, or that a draft approach is fail proof to the detriment of others. We are wrong more often than not, so all we can do is give advice based on data and information that came before the day today.

The last thing, and it’s somewhat tied to what I said first, is that I’m a big, big proponent of #DraftYourGuys, which Rui and others coined as #Mafrismo, and I love it. If you really want to enjoy a whole season of Fantasy and the teams you have, you should focus on getting the players you like, not necessarily the players the rankings are telling you about. You could use ADP to more or less guide you on when to take a player or two, but throw that out of the window as an absolute certainty. This #Mafrismo approach is what allowed me to scoop so many Puka Nacuas and Romeo Doubs this season, because I really like them as players and people (and one of the reasons why I have or would have overpaid to get Aaron Jones, the guy I like the most in the NFL right now).

You can find Gabriel’s work at BrFFootball and of course see his comments and thoughts on X at @GabsMafra Please go follow him there.

Thank you for reading, please come back tomorrow as we highlight another Latin in the Fantasy Football Community.
