Welcome back TSA Readers to week 4 of our NBA Awards Voting Blog, Happy Easter for those that celebrate and hello to the insanity that has occurred since we last read! To date, we’ve had 7 different 50-plus scoring moments, a couple of tight overtimes, a nasty 60-point blowout and a new set of votes for this week.

Hopefully, you’re reading this because you’re catching a break from all of the sports activity. While events unfolded, we also took the chance to get your input on whom you believe to be this season’s MVP. Here is the breakdown from that vote:

The math breaks down to: Jokic – 12, Luka – 9, SGA – 8, Other 4. The craziest thing about this is that it matches (in ranking order) the current votings listed on NBA.com…But, will it hold? As we present this week’s votes, take a moment to note: there are less than 2 weeks’ worth left of games. Anything can change.

MVP

JR – SGA. I’m simply following the “Best record” mantra that most media followed in former years, but I’ll add that with the presence of (or lack thereof) SGA and his offense, so to does the offense of the Thunder. Everything becomes a negative split without SGA – unless the performance is against a sub-.500 team! Simply put: The most valuable player gives the best team the best chance to win. This vote is not about who the best player is.

Rico – Luka. I can’t remember the last time a guy has done as much as he’s done and hasn’t really been in people’s top votegetter for the MVP Award. Luka is peaking at the right time for this Dallas team to get in the playoffs and make a possible run. Luka has been nothing short of spectacular.

ROY – Unanimous – Victor Wembanyama

JR – So, this is going to sound like a broken record, unless Brandon Miller hits a triple-double for wins, or Chet is the playoffs MVP. Wemby has to go off for the Spurs to win. That’s the line. It doesn’t matter if he hits a quadruple-single or a 50-30 double-double, what he does gets the Spurs to win. He needs help, but his only stat that matters to me right now: win shares.

Rico – Like I’ve said earlier in a previous entry…it’s his to lose. Man dropped a 40 ball at MSG and then tossed the ball in the stands so Brunson couldn’t get it after dropping 61. Yeah it’s a wrap.

COTY

RicoJamahl Mosley . Yall giving Orlando their props or not?!? Mosley is doing great things for the Magic organization and has since gotten an extension for 4 years a few weeks ago. Orlando is firmly sitting in the playoff race. He’s a good reason for it.

JR – Willie Green. So, I’ve been going back over my previous notes to promote Jamahl Mosley over in Orlando, and the Pelicans have done a better job of what Orlando was doing withing a tighter, albeit harder conference. It ain’t all “fine in the West” when, in the same division as Luka/Kai, OKC, and a red-hot Houston team (10 straight before this post), this team managed to remain a playoff-bound team. This team has already surpassed last year’s win total and conference standings with 8 games to go. That’s a result of consistency that we haven’t seen in the Alvin Gentry seasons.

6th MoTY

JR – TJ McConnell. When Haliburton’s blistering offensive paced slowed, and in the days he wasn’t available, McConnell found a way to maintain both the scoring and assist pace for the Pacers. It’s one thing to just fill in for the points for your leader, but to fit in and keep the offense flowing? The crazy thing is that he still needs to qualify for eligibility for this award. He needs one game.

DPOY

RICO – Victor Wembanyama. I’m giving him his props. Man said that after this year the award is his. He can get the award now.

JR – Jonathan Isaac. Before I hit the numbers, you need to go back and watch/listen to the Orlando-Sacramento game. This man was a huge reason why the Magic were close to winning this game. He is the defensive anchor for the Magic, and due to injury, he won’t make the number of games needed to qualify. My vote still goes to him because of how often he makes his opponents miss and he has his 2nd-highest defensive rating in his career (104.7)

We are omitting Most Improved Player on this week, just to give y’all time to digest everything else. When you compare these votes to yours and the field’s, how do they stack up? Who would you vote for at this point in the regular season? Again, anything can happen over these last games of the season. Be sure to stay tuned-in to this blog and TSA for our future votes!
