New York Jets 20.9 PPG 12th, Sacks 48 Tied 7th
The New York Jets managed to have a good defense, despite zero help from their offense. They managed 48 sacks, which was good enough for 7th in the league, and they kept their points per game at 20.9. That is less than three touchdowns per game, a great metric in the modern NFL.
They have a similar roster, with the studs in place again. Sacue Gardner could be the best cornerback of the decade, and Head Coach Robert Saleh is a keen defensive mind. Their 2023 could have gone better, but Aaron Rodgers was suppose to be there. They would very likely be a top defense if he was there.
2024 Projection: 13th
The New York Jets should have A. Rodgers this year, and will have one of the best brother combinations in the NFL. Quincy and Quinnen Williams are star IDPs, with Quincy earning first team All-Pro member, and Quinnen a Pro Bowl selection. More on them later though.
The Jets are in a division with two good offenses, and a conference loaded with them. They also have an issue with newest Jet member Haason Reddick, who is demanding a trade. They should be about the same defense as last year, and have been ranked as so. The drop back is from a lack of secondary and possible huge loss with Reddick not interested in playing for the Jets.
BEST FF IDPs: In Order of Ranking
LB – Quincy Williams
DL Quinnen Williams
LB CJ Mosley
Quincy Williams did not come out with the immediate fame and expectations that his brother Quinnen Williams. Yet they each have one All-Pro team nomination, and are the core of the New York Jets defense.
Quincy Williams has recorded over 100 tackles in each of his last three seasons, including 139 last seasons, a career high. In addition to that 10 passes defended, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. Quincy doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, and falls in drafts. If you want a solid, point-getting linebacker, draft Quincy as somewhere between the sith and twelfth of the board. He is a LB1 through and through.
Quinnen Williams is the highly touted, baby-faced defensive tackle that could one day be as revered as Aaron Donald. He finished with 62 tackles, 20 quarterback hits, 5.5 sacks, 3 passes defended, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and tied the league lead with 1 sack. That is the stats an athletic, young defensive tackle can bring.
In leagues in which defensive tackles are not needed, Quinnen Williams’ value takes a dip. However, in leagues which require a defensive tackle only DeForest Buckner and Chris Jones are ranked higher. If a defensive tackle is required go get him after the first DT falls.
CJ Mosley is a linebacker but gets the nod over any secondary member. Truthfully there are decent IDPs in the Jets secondary, but none of them would have more value than CJ Mosley. He is a future Hall of Fame candidate, with the stats to back it up.
The 2014 14th overall pick is still a tackling machine, earning 152 combined tackles last year. He has recorded over 150 tackles in each of his last three seasons, and over 90 in every season but 2019 in which he played only 2 games.
Some might be worried about his age, but he essentially earned a two year break from the NFL with an injury and opting out during the covid year. He is primed to lead the Jets and should have another 140+ tackle season is worth a draft pick in standard and custom leagues alike.
Tomorrow the Minnesota Vikings.
