As we wrap up week one of the NFL season it’s time to prepare for week two by checking the waiver wire, also keep in mind the NFL’s new kicking rules. If you’re participating in a league where return production is rewarded like the Scott Fish Bowl (SFB #14)and need a kick returner, players like Rashid Shaheed perform well. Face it, in SFB #14 Rashid Shaheed is unfortunately on rosters, but check anyway. Here are three players who might still be available on waivers that could offer production as a kick returner.
DeeJay Dallas
DeeJay Dallas deserves a massive shoutout for being the first to score a kick return TD in 2024. I can only imagine how big his eyes got as he sprinted 96 yards to the house. As a 5-year vet, he has proven his worth in the NFL and he’s only rostered in 5% of Sleeper leagues. If you didn’t prioritize selecting a kick returner in the SFB #14 drafts, consider picking up DeeJay Dallas off waivers in Week 2.
DeAndre Carter
The Bears were down seventeen points when DeAndre Carter who is rostered in only 2% of Sleeper leagues received the ball from kicker Nick Folk. It was noticeable that the 31-year-old still has juice in those legs. One impressive aspect to highlight is the running lanes that the Bears created for DeAndre Carter. He was able to make a quick cut and then run for 66 yards, which gave the Bears the boost they needed to come back and win the game eventually. Let’s acknowledge the effort of the players in creating lanes for DeAndre Carter to run through. I also want to credit Richard Hightower, the Special Teams Coordinator, who is another leaf from the Shanahan coaching tree, nuff said!
Derius Davis
This second-year player from TCU is not a big guy at 165 lbs, but he is a speedy threat as a kick returner, capable of taking it to the house. He didn’t do much at all last week against the Raiders. However, this week, the Chargers are playing the Panthers! Many teams did not show up to play in Week 1, and the Panthers, who were punched in the mouth by the Saints, were one of them. Derius Davis has a punt returned for a TD already in his young career. He is not rostered in any Sleeper leagues. Until the Panthers improve their performance, they will be a team I am targeting for favorable matchups for fantasy players.
