Well ok! In week five we witnessed some entertaining football in the NFL. This was the second week in a row we had ten plus games with a scoring differential of less than double digit points. There were comebacks, close calls, and of course injuries, sigh. I wish Nico Collins well and hope his hamstring injury is not too serious.
Last week we discussed D’Onta Foreman and Mecole Hardman Jr. Remind me to never discuss a Cleveland Browns player until some changes are made. Mecole Hardman came up late on the injury report over the weekend with a knee injury, but Hardman toughed it out and played. Hardman totaled 65 yards while touching the ball eight times including four punt returns. Remember the Chiefs put Rashee Rice on Injury Reserve (I.R.) prior to their week five Monday Night game against the Saints. Here are a couple players for week six you could add to your squads to help Boost your Return game.
KaVontae Turpin
On Sunday Night Football in week five KaVontae Turpin had the most percentage of snap for his season so far at 29%. It’s not a lot, but Turpin did display his skills nicely. He had five opportunities totaling 82 yards with 38 yards coming from the kick-off return department in the win against the Steelers. Turpin is a smaller player by stature, so he won’t have a full complement of snaps, but his 35-yard catch in the third quarter suggest he can make big plays. Also, remember Brandin Cooks landed on I.R. for a knee infection. In week six the Cowboys play the Lions and their strong-legged kicker Jake Bates. The Lions only allowed two kick returns against Seattle in week four. Though Turpin may not get many opportunities in the return game this week. He is a weapon that could exploit a vulnerable Lions secondary in what could be a shootout in Dallas. Turpin is currently only rostered in one percent of Sleeper leagues.
Raheem Blackshear
There haven’t been many positional players with over 200 yards this season. Derrick Henry did recently on primetime, but he’s the King! Raheem Blackshear in week one had 203 yards. All kick return yards against the New Orleans Saints. We all know the Saints have elected to kick to returners this year. In week five Blackshear racked up 101 yards in game against the Bears. The Bears’ offense is getting better but could it speak more about the Panther’s defense. Currently the Panthers’ defense is giving up 32 points per game, dead last in the NFL. The Panthers are on a horrid pace to beat the 1981 Baltimore Colts (533 points) and give up the most points in a single season. Blackshear could find himself in plenty of opportunities to return the ball if the Panthers continue to demonstrate inferior play on the defensive side of the football. In week six the Panthers play a Falcons team coming off a divisional week five win against the Bucs. In where Kirk Cousins looked the best he has all season and threw for over 500 yards. It’s only a matter of time Bijan…..I couldn’t help it! Blackshear is right now available on Sleeper at zero percent. Take a shot on him especially in leagues giving you return yardage points. In week one of the Scott Fish Bowl Blackshear scored 40 points and I know some of us were kicking ourselves for not playing him.
